Sea Eagle safari in the backyard of Senja and surrounding areas – amazing photography opportunities, under the arctic light.

The sea areas of Salangen, southwest of Tromsø, in the backyard off Senja island, are the sea eagles hunting grounds.

See & Explore is based on Svalbard and Sjøvegan (Troms county), and we are your experienced tour guide to the nature and wildlife in the High North Arctic. Our founder and guide, Oddgeir Sagerup, is an Authorized Svalbard guide and a professional photographer. Our speciality is wildlife photography and we know how you can get the best experience and pictures. In this spectacular Arctic Northern-Norway coast landscape, we have the sea eagle.

Our tour is starting and ending at the port of Sjøvegan, the municipality center of Salangen. Here we have our base and our “Svalbard Gallery”. This is approximately 3 hours drive from Tromsø Airport, 1 hour and 10 minutes from the city of Finnsnes, and Narvik,  55 minutes from Bardufoss Airport,  and 1 hour and 20 minutes fra Harstad/Narvik Evenes Airport.

Fore travel information, look under “How to travel”.

We are following “the natureś terms”and the weather conditions. No wildlife guarantee is offered and we following strict guidelines. We have many sea eagle territories, and we have close encounters more and less, every day.

Weather and light conditions:

The Polar Night in North Norway, stretches from around 27 November to 15 January. However, there is not constant darkness. In this period the weather conditions can be rough and unpredictable. During some hours we can have pluss degrees, sunny weather and the next moment cold air is coming, wind increases, minus degrees and snow can come. But on god days, when the sky brightens for a while in the middle of the day, we get a magical mix of dusk and dawn. It’s hard to beat the sight of a sea eagle in front of pink polar skies and snow-capped mountains. We have sunny winter conditions up to middle of April, and we have midnight sun conditions from mid May to late July, and then lovely autumn colors up to midt October, before we are heading into the polar night, again.

Season: The whole year! Between the 27th of November to 15th of January, we are into the polar night, and between 10am and 2 pm we have low light conditions, but lovely blue twilight. We have sunny winter conditions, from late January, up to mid April, midnight sun conditions from mid May to late July, and lovely autumn colours up to mid October, before we are heading into the polar night, again.
