NEW SEASON STARTS 19 October 2026
Whale Watching RIB Safari in the Tromsø Region
The waters around Skjervøy and surrounding areas
The sea areas around Skjervøy, north-east of Tromsø, are important feeding grounds for whales. From late October to January, these magnificent marine mammals migrate towards the coast in pursuit of herring. In recent years, the whales have gradually moved north from the Tromsø coastline, and since 2017 they have mainly stayed in the Skjervøy area. However, as with all wildlife, their exact location may vary from season to season.
See & Explore is based in Svalbard and Sjøvegan (Troms County) and offers experienced guiding in the High North. Our founder and guide, Oddgeir Sagerup, is an authorized Svalbard guide and professional photographer. Wildlife photography is our specialty, and we use our expertise to help you achieve the best possible experience and images.
The tour starts and ends in Skjervøy, approximately a 4-hour drive from Tromsø. Please note that you can book our tour with bus transfer from Tromsø, included in our price and You can also book the same tour, directly from Skjervøy, and provide transport from Tromsø to Skjervøy by yourself.
As this is a wildlife experience, we cannot guarantee whale sightings. We strictly follow official guidelines, maintain the required distance, and ensure that the whales are not disturbed. All our tours operate on nature’s terms and are subject to weather conditions.
In the spectacular coastal landscapes of Northern Norway, we hope to encounter orcas and humpback whales and share an unforgettable Arctic experience with you.

Weather and Light Conditions
The Polar Night in Tromsø lasts approximately from 27 November to 15 January. However, this does not mean continuous darkness. During this period, there are still several hours of twilight each day, creating unique and atmospheric light conditions.
Weather in the Arctic can be rough and unpredictable. Temperatures may rise above freezing with calm, sunny conditions, only to shift quickly as cold air moves in, winds increase, temperatures drop below zero, and snowfall begins. Rapid changes are a natural part of the Arctic environment.
On clear days, when the sky brightens briefly around midday, the landscape is transformed by a magical blend of dawn and dusk colors. Few sights compare to the silhouette of a whale’s fin against soft pink polar skies and snow-covered mountains.
